Lakes of Cavan

There is an age-old saying that Cavan has ‘a lake for every day of the year’. Now, for the first time, 365 lakes in the county have been listed and photographed for this book by photographer Hu O’Reilly.  

Here you can take a visual journey through these lakes. Some of the lakes are steeped in folklore, with tales of white horses that magically appear and disappear on the lake’s edge, fairy people who live on the bottom of the lake, and pots of gold that are just beyond the reach of those trying to capture them.

Enjoy amazing landscapes of the remote lakes in West Cavan, such as Lough Cam in the Cuilcagh Mountains and Derrynananta Lough on Benbrack Mountain.
